Swim with the whales in Tonga
We are ready to take you on the adventure of a lifetime with one of our “Swim with the Whales” excursions.
Departing from Nuku’alofa, the capital of Tonga, our trips are for those seeking the unforgettable experience of swimming with the whales. Our Humpback whale swim trips start on July 1, to coincide with the the arrival of the whales, who are visiting the tropical waters of Tonga for their mating and breeding season. The season starts to wind down in October, as the last of the Humpback whales begin their return journey to their feeding grounds in Antartica.
Our experienced team of whale swim enthusiasts are all set to bring the magic to you with day trips and promise the chance for majestic encounters and “wow” moments.
What to expect
Our whale swim trip is a full day excursion leaving Faua wharf in Nuku’alofa at around 8.30am. We will spend the day looking for opportunities to watch and snorkel with the Humpback whales, trying to get the most out of your time on the water with us.
No one day on the water is the same, and once we get out there nature takes over. Every day and every whale interaction is unique, but nothing is guaranteed, as we rely on ocean conditions and finding the “right” whale/s to get the swim/s. That’s why we always recommend as many days on the water as possible.
After spending the morning looking for opportunities to swim, lunch will be enjoyed either on a beautiful remote island or near a sheltered reef. After lunch we try for one final interaction before heading home.
We arrive back at Faua Wharf around 3pm.
Water, morning tea and lunch are included. Swim gear is also available, this includes a 2.5mm Springsuit, snorkel, mask & flippers, although we always recommend using your own if you have them, for best fit.
We are a fully licensed operator. Our local regulations require that only 4 swimmers are allowed in the water at one time and are to be accompanied in the water by a qualified whale swim guide and on the boat by a qualified captain.
